Membership Overview

If you want to explore your local area and other parts of the UK, get active and make friends, WASC is for you.

Founded in 2005 by a group of local thrill-seekers, the WASC is a thriving and supportive community club of like-minded folk interested in sharing skills and experiences in the great outdoors.

Each month WASC selects an area, either locally or further afield, where members can explore, make friends and get active either on land, on water or underground. Where applicable, budget-priced accomodation is organised at campsites, bunkhouses or club huts.  Members are encouraged to share their ideas for activities and help to make things happen.

The club owns a range of kayaking, climbing and caving equipment which members can use at a minimal cost during WASC events and for their own use, provided they have the skills to use them independently.

To promote inclusivity, we aim to make our activities as low cost as possible. There are no membership requirements; the club is open to novices and seasoned adventurers alike. Families are welcome, although under 18s may only join the club and attend club events with a parent or legal guardian.

When you join you will have the option to take out British Canoeing affiliate club membership, giving you public liability insurance for club events when you take part in those events.

To find out more about our club's activities, please visit our website or join our Facebook group.

The Serious Bit

Before you go on any outing, we need to be very clear with you about the risks of the activities, as adventure sports are dangerous.

The club has a particular ethos and way of operating, about which it is vital that all members understand:

By agreeing to join the club you confirm the following:
You understand that you are undertaking dangerous activities, at your own risk.
You understand that the club will not assess your ability to undertake an activity and that you take responsibility for your own participation.
You understand that you cannot rely on the competence of others to keep you safe at an event. If you feel unsafe or uncomfortable with decisions made, you will speak out and, if need be, not take part.
You understand that just because the club is open to members of the public does not mean that an activity is risk-free or low-risk.
You understand that by coming on a trip, you accept the risk of doing so, even if that risk is unknown to you! Ignorance is not an excuse, read up and learn about activities before taking part.
You understand that the details of an event are given as best foreseen at the time of issue.

The last bit

PLEASE NOTE: Adults from the same family MUST sign up on separate membership forms. A link will be sent for the other adult members to use once purchase has been completed.
