January 2011

Monday 3rd January - Committee/Planning Meeting
Come over to Bill's and join in the plannng session for the next three months activities. Meet at Bill's 19:30.

Friday 7th January - Indoor Climbing Session
Indoor climbing at the Swindon Link Centre, suitable for all who can belay and tie climbing knots. If you are not confident in your skills don't worry, contact Dave or Bill and we will get you sorted. Depart Bill's 78 Portway 18:15. Organiser Dave

Saturday 15th January - White Water Trip River Exe
An introductory white water trip on the Exe at Tiverton. Suitable for all paddlers who have achieved 1 star, if not sure chat with Bill. Depart Bill's 78 Portway 08:00. Organiser Bill.

Friday 21st January - Easy Caving
Easy caving in a Burrington dry cave, suitable for all ages and experience. We will be doing one of the Burrington Coombe caves. Bring wellies, gloves and spare batteries, we supply the rest. Pick up kit at Bill's 78 Portway at 18:15. Organiser Dave.

Saturday 29th January - Kayak Pool Session
Another of our popular pool sessions for those wanting to brush up their skills, get introduced to paddling or learn to roll. Dependent on numbers about £5/head, turn up at the pool 17:30 to help sort the kit. Organiser Bill.

February 2011

Sunday 6th February - High Ropes at Braeside
A family challenge on Braeside's high rope area, everything from family telegraph pole standing to building crate piles and then standing on them. Bring teams to see who can win the high ropes challenge. A must not miss event! Turn up at Braeside for a 14:00 start. Organiser Darren.

Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th February - Winter Campout
A winter camp out for all those of you who want to refine their outdoor skills. Building shelters, making fires, preparing and cooking 'free range food' and of course telling tall tales around the camp fire. Organiser Darren. Details to follow.

Saturday 5th March - Ballistics
Yet again another politically incorrect day utilising all manner of ballistics devices from potatoe guns, air rifles, pistols and anything else we can lay our hands on. Turn up at the waste land behind the recycling centre at 10:30. Organiser Steve.

Friday 11th March - Wet Caving
An intermediate trip either to Stoke Lane Sloker( a new cave for us but water levels need to be low enough) otherwise a trip to Swildons. Bring wellies, gloves and spare batteries. Depart Bill's 78 Portway18:15. Organiser Dave.

Sunday 13th March - Pen Y Fan
A walking trip up Pen Y Fan, suitable for all. Pen Y Fan is in the Brecon Beacons national park and a great way to get into mountain walking. We are trying to organise a minibus so should be a great social event as well. Organiser James.

Saturday 26th March - River Frome Trip
A trip down the river Frome jumping weirs and going down chutes. Suitable for most who can manage 2 hours of paddling. Depart Bill's 78 Portway 09:30. Organiser Bill.

April 2011

Friday 8th April - Easy Wet Caving

Probably heading down Swildons Hole. This will be a light to medium strenuous trip, suitable for all but the most nervous. Expect to get wet. Bring AA batteries, wellies and gloves. Meet at 78 Portway at 6.15pm. Organiser Dave.

Sunday 10 April - CIWW
A trip to the Cardiff International White Water course. This is a 250m artificial white water course (in Cardiff). From 9.30am to 11.30am they run it at half power which would be suitable for a competent flatwater paddler wanting to experience moving water. From 11.30am onwards it is suitable for competenet whitewater paddlers or people who like falling out of kayaks/rolling practice. It costs £5 to £10 a head to use the facility and you can do it all day long. Depart 78 Portway at 7.30am. Organiser Dave.

Saturday 16 April - Mine visit
This will be one of Miner Murtie's trips to an old Bath stone mine somewhere in the vicinity of Bath. Details tba. Organiser Steve.

Wednesday 20 April - Indoor Climbing at Writhlington
A chance to check out the climbing wall at Writhlington School in Radstock. Depart 78 Portway 6.15pm. Organiser Bill.

Saturday 23 April - Extreme Easter Egg Hunt
A chance to beat up Darren Oram and hunt for Easter Eggs. Consists of games followed by an egg hunt. Convene at 78 Portway 2.30pm. Organiser Bill & Darren.

Friday 29 April - Royal Wedding
Have anyone else been invited to this? I'd be willing to share a carriage and go halves on the oats - Bill.

May 2011

Friday 6 May - River Session, Bradford on Avon

Meet at Bradford on Avon, go for a bit of a paddle and then have a BBQ (weather permitting). Convene at BoA at 6.30pm. Organiser: Dave.

Sunday 8 May + 15 May - BCU 1 Star Award
Over two consecutive Sunday mornings, learn the BCU 1 star syllabus. This is a very basic intro to kayaking. Cost is £20 a head payable in advance. Meet at 78 Portway at 8.30am. Organiser Bill.

Saturday 21 May - Sport Climbing in Portland
A chance to try some sport climbing in Portland - nice rock and a nice day if it's sunny. Bring swimming trunks if you have a good tolerance for cold water. Suitable for kids 7+. Depart 78 Portway 9.30am. Organiser Bill.

Wednesday 25 May - Indoor Climbing
Head to Writhlington for some indoor climbing. Depart 78 Portway at 6.15pm or meet at Writhlington centre at 7.00pm. Organiser Dave.

Sat/Sun 4/5 June - Warminster Wobble Cycling Festival

Wiltshire's biggest cycling festival. The WASC typically has a stand and members compete in the time trial. Saturday consists of various rides, Sunday is the day of the main festival in the Park.

Sunday 19 June - Father's Day Deathslide
A nice session outdoors whizzing along a rope at high speed into a quarry. Depart 78 Portway 10am or meet there at 10.30am. Fancy dress. Organisers Dave.

Weekend 1-3 July - Biblins Weekend
Campout in the Forest of Dean, canoe down the river Wye on Saturday and then either climb or play on the rapids on Sunday. Organiser Mike Hopper.

Wednesday 6 July - Night Mountain Bike Ride
Night mountain bike ride of about 10 miles over easy terrain. Organiser Bill.

Friday 8 July - Swildons Caving
Swildons trip, get out of the heat and enjoy one of the Mendips most spectaular caves. Swildons is a wet cave with a stream way flowing through it, technically very easy suitable for all including children with reasonable stamina. Organiser Dave.

Sunday 10 July - Easy Orienteering
Trek round a 3 mile orienteering course on Salisbury Plain with a map and compass. 2pm. Organiser Darren.

Weekend 22-24 July - Ultimate Survival: I'm a nobody get me out of here

Friday 12th August Sally's Rift
Our first visit to Sally's Rift cave. This has some strenuous sections but can be done by any reasonable fit person or young person. Organiser Steve.

Saturday 13th August Holden Forest Mountain Bike Ride
An easy mountain bike ride around the trails in Holden Forest near Exeter. A great way to experience some off road mountain biking without the strenuous effort. Organiser Sue.

Sunday 14th August Cardiff White Water Centre
A great way to experience white water kayaking in benign conditions On Sunday mornings they run the white water at reduced flow for beginners and cheap as well, £5 for children/£10 for adults. Seriously good fun and a great way to experience white water. Just type Cardiff White Water into Google to see what fun it is. Organiser Dave.

Friday 19th August Introductory Swildons trip
An easy trip to Swildons, the spectacular wet cave in the Mendips. This shorter trip is oriented for beginners and children of all ages. Technically not difficult a great way to spend a summer's evening climbing down waterfalls and splashing about in water. Organiser Dave.

Saturday/Sunday/Monday 27th-29th August Swanage Climbing/Sailing/Canoeing
Another regular feature of the WASC calendar. A trip camping to Swanage to do some of the UK's easiest sport climbs, swimming at dancing ledge and then sailing or canoe across Poole harbour (depending on weather conditions). Suitable for all from young children to the other end of the age spectrum. Organiser Bill.

While the water is still warm, a trip to North Devon (Putsborough) to surf on body board, full size boards and kayaks. Great fun and brilliant way to end the summer.
