2007 - Year of Evolution

This is a list of all the major events that took place in 2007.  We leave them here for memories sake and to give prospective members an idea of what we do.

January - 2007

Monday 15 January - Symonds Yat Kayak Expedition
Get up incredibly early, head down to Ross-on-Wye and go kayaking on the fabulous River Wye. Book a place with Darren. Leave 9 Gipsy Lane, Warminster at 6am.

Weekend 19, 20 & 21 January - Mendip Adventure Weekend
Residential weekend at the Mendip Adventure Centre, Charterhouse in the Mendips. A great chance to live rough in a hut and do adventurous stuff outside.

Friday 26 January - Indoor Climbing in Bristol
Leave 78 Portway, Warminster at 5.30pm and head over to Bristol to hone those climbing skills.

February

Saturday 3, 10, 17 & 24 February - Snowboarding Lessons
This takes place at the Yeovil dry ski centre where Darren has negotiated a special rate for 10+ people. Leave Warminster from 9 Gipsy Lane at 5.105pm and learn to snowboard - it's harder than skiing. Skiers can also come and go free skiing at the same discounted rate.

Monday 12 February - WASC Meeting
Regular Club meeting at 7.30pm at 78 Portway.

Friday 16 February - Indoor Climbing in Bristol
Leave 78 Portway, Warminster at 5.30pm and head over to Bristol to further hone those climbing skills.

March

Friday 9 March - Ice & Climb Swindon
This will be a trip to Swindon sports centre to go either ice skating or climbing - take your pick. Minibus leaves 7 Gipsey Lane at 7pm. Family friendly.

Monday 12 March - River Wye Kayak Trip
Hardcoreish kayaking on the River Wye at Symonds Yatt. Should be good given the huge amounds of rain we have had. Bring lots of wetsuit coverage. Leave 7 Gipsey Lane at 6am.

Saturday 18 March - The Outdoors Show
Gear freak's day out to the Outdoors Show in London, we could also hit the Tamworth snowdome as well???!!!

Tuesday 20 March - Severn Bore trip
Do battle with a ten foot wall of water. This one is biiiiiiiiig!!! This year sees a 4* bore hitting the R. Severn. It will be thundering past the Severn Bore Inn at 8.40 in the morning. So we need to leave Warminster at 6.30am to make sure we get there in time. This is one you can kayak on or I have an inflatable dinghy that takes about 3 people in discomfort. Leave 78 Portway at 6.30am.

Monday 26 March - Tony's MTB across Salisbury Plain
Top mountain bike rider Tony Moore will be leading a 20 mile MTB route around the eastern side of Salisbury plain, most of it is hard pack so it is actually quite fast. Don't be put off by the 20 mile thing. Leave Warminster 6pm, leaving point tba.

Fri 30 March - Ice & Climb Swindon
Leave 7 Gipsey Lane at 7pm. Family friendly.

April

Saturday 7 April - Ironman Easter Egg Hunt
The return of last years tip top Easter egg hunt and funday, consisting of Dodgeball, Fox and Hounds, Egg Hunt, etc. 2pm at 78 Portway. Family friendly.

Friday 13 April - Easy Caving
Leave 78 Portway 6.15pm - Family Friendly caving expedition in the Mendips.

Saturday 21 April - Indoor Kayaking at Warminster Swimming Pool
Time tba but probably around 8pm. You will need to book into this session as likely to be very popular. Family friendly.

May

Saturday 12 May - Climbing Day Indoor/Outdoor weather dependent
If it's nice we head down to Vallis Vale, if it's raining we head for Bristol. Either be at Vallis at 10am or Bristol at 10.30am. This is a good opportunity to get outside on some rock - hopefully. Family friendly.

Friday 18 May - Archery evening
Venue and time tba. Family friendly.

Monday 21 May - WASC meeting
Regular club meeting at 7.30pm at 78 Portway.

June

Friday 8, 15, 22 & 29 - 1* & 2* Kayak Course at BoA
This is the famous WASC kayak course, Darren has now qualified as 2* examiner and can pass people for BCU 1* and 2*. Leave from 9 Gipsy Lane at 6.15pm, get to BoA about 6.45pm. Suitable for adults and children.

Saturday 9 June - Climbing Day at Vallis
Rock climbing in Vallis Vale quarry near Frome. Suitable for children and adults. Leave 78 Portway, Warminster at 10.30am or meet at Vallis at 11am.

Wednesday 13 June - MTB session on Salisbury Plain
About as much fun as you can have on Salisbury Plain without a rifle and armoured vehicle. This session will be split between adults (more punishing) and kids (less punishing) Either leave 78 Portway at 6.30pm or meet at Larkhill Golf Club Car Park at 6.50pm.

July

Wednesday 4 July - Deathslide session
Another chance to try out the deathslide, this time Darren will be doing in in a kayak and James is on a wakeboard. Leave 78 Portway at 7pm. Suitable from about 10+.

Friday 6 & 13 July - 1* & 2* Kayak Course at BoA
More of the same - see above.

Sunday 8 July - Rollerski Sunday
A chance to try the up and coming sport of rollerskiing - like cross-country skiing but you don't need snow. 2pm on the traffic free path between Frome and Radstock - precise location TBA.

Monday 16 July - WASC meeting
Regular club meeting at 7.30pm at 78 Portway. All welcome.

Wednesday 18 July - MTB session on Salisbury Plain

Friday 27 July 2007 - Caving
This will be a moderately easy caving session in a dry cave called Sidcott Swallet in Burrington Combe. Suitable for children but people with very large rib cages may struggle at one point. Make sure you bring wellies and a helmet and headtorch if you can. Meet at 78 Portway
at 6.30pm.

Saturday 28 July - Vallis Climbing
We have a day of climbing scheduled for Vallis but the forecast is for fairly heavy rain. Also, I cannot make it so the options are head for Bristol or Swindon or do something else.

August

Wednesday 1 August - Zipwire
A chance to test your mettle. Only really worth doing if we have a fine evening. Bring a wetsuit if you can. Leave 78 Portway at 6.30pm.

Fri, Sat, Sun 3-5 August - Campout at Wareham
Last year we had a campout at Redcliffe Farm campsite nearWareham - good access to Wareham, you can launch a boat off the slipway and studland, Poole Harbour and Conner Cove (for deepwater soloing) are not far away. Book direct with Redcliffe Farm on 01929 552225.

Sat 11 August - Ice & Climb
Visit Swindon sports centre either for indoor climbing or to go skating. Either leave 78 Portway at 6.15pm or see you there at the Swindon centre at 7.30pm

Wed 22 August - MTB
Either/and/or adult and junior rides, depending on who turn up. Leave Warminster at 6.15pm, venue TBA.

September

Friday 14 September - Epic 50 Mile MTB
This one is designed to be fairly ultra-gruelling and will see you across Cranborne Chase and through to Wilton and back to Warminster. Leave from Tony's house at 9am.

Saturday 15 September - Possible day on ropes course This is using the ropes course at a local adventure centre, but Darren needs to work out the access so timings are TBA.

Monday 17 September - Whitewater Kayaking on R. Usk
This is on the midsections of the River Usk, it is a great trip according to the guidebook and designed for intermediate paddlers. IE, you should be around 2* or better. Leave Warminster at 7am. Other details TBA.

Friday 21 September - Caving
Leave 78 Portway at 6.30pm

Monday 24 September - WASC Meeting
General club meeting at 7.30pm at 78 Portway.

October

Friday 5 October - Intermediate Caving
This will be a caving session that is suitable for children and adults who are either pretty confident or who have done one or two caving trips before. Meet 78 Portway at 6.30pm. Bring wellies.

Friday 19 October - Indoor Climbing Swindon
Either leave 78 Portway at 6.15pm or see you there at the Swindon centre at 7.30pm.

Wednesday 17 October - Night-time MTB session on Salisbury Plain
Time to break open the cycle lights and cycle around outside in cold weather. Either leave 78 Portway at 6.30pm - we could organise a concurrent kids session if anyone is interested.

Monday 15 October - Whitewater Kayaking on the R. Usk in S. Wales
Leave early and spend a day on the III star waters of the glorious river Usk. Aim to be back in Warminster by 5pm. Suitable for those of 2 star standard ability.

Saturday 27 October - Surfing Day at Staunton or Croyde
Come on in the water's lovely, even if the air temperature is a tab chilly. At this time of year the surf is tip top. Leave Warminster 9am.

November

Friday 2 November - Caving Session
This will be a caving session that is suitable for children and adults who are either pretty confident or who have done one or two caving trips before. Meet 78 Portway at 6.30pm. Bring wellies.

Monday 12 November - WASC Meeting
General club meeting at 7.30pm at 78 Portway.

Saturday 17 November - Ballistics Day
Safe fun with legal air weopans at an undisclosed location near Bath. Meet at 9.30am at 78 Portway and proceed in an orderly fashion to the RV.

December

Saturday 8 December - Ropes Course near Devizes
This involves going on a new high ropes course at a centre near Devizes. The cost will be roughly £5 a head depending on how many want to come. You need to book in advance by contacting Darren. Leaving location and time TBA.

Saturday 8 December - Xmas Party
At 156 Elm Hill, Warminster. Ask the Walshes on 01985 217772 for directions. From 6pm onwards - bring something to BBQ plus general food/snacks and drinks.

Friday 14 December - Easy Caving
Leave 78 Portway 6.15pm - Family-friendly caving expedition in the Mendips.

Saturday 15 - MTB Muckaround
Meet at Heaven's Gate car park at 1pm. This is a family-friendly mountainbiking session in the Longleat forest.

Friday 28 December - Indoor Climbing Session
Head for Swindon Climbing Wall in the afternoon - Leave 78 Portway at 1.30pm.

Monday 31 December - Hardcore Caving Daytrip
This will be a cold wet, tiring experience for people who have already done one or two trips are are fairly competent in a cave. Somewhere in the Mendips. Leave 78 Portway at 9.30am.
