January 2013

Tuesday 8th January- Planning Meeting

Our quarterly planning meeting and a chance to discuss next quarters programme. All very welcome the more the better. Bring biscuits, cakes and any goodies that will help sustain us through the meeting. Meeting is at Bill's house 78 Portway.

Saturday 19th January- New Year Curry and AGM

As we did not have our Christmas curry night this season, we are having a New Year curry night combined with our AGM. Make or otherwise bring some food along the curry theme and we will have a big mix of everyones curry delights. At the same time we will have a very short AGM to get our annual requirements completed. Please everyone who can come. Kickoff at 18:00 at Darren's place 7 Gipsy Lane.

Friday 25th January- Night Adventure

Another of Darren's night challenges, prepare to be taken somewhere in the local area and be given instrructions to follow. An exercise in night navigation suitable for all, form your team or turn up and join one. More details tba, organiser Darren.

Saturday 26th January- Kayak Pool Session

Our regular winter series of pool session for kayakers. If you just want to muck about or want to improve your support strokes or learn to roll, these are the sessions for you. We split the cost between whoever attends so the more the cheaper! Please support as it helps to keep the costs under control and is great fun. This session starts at 17:00, organiser Dave.

Sunday 3rd February- Mountain Bike Ride

A ride off road through a tbd course. Great fun but do be prepared to get muddy! Start at 10:00 organiser Simon.

Our regular winter series of pool session for kayakers. If you just want to muck about or want to improve your support strokes or learn to roll, these are the sessions for you. We split the cost between whoever attends so the more the cheaper! Please support as it helps to keep the costs under control and is great fun. This session starts at 18:00, organiser Bill

Monday 11th February- Dart loop kayaking

As long as there is enough water in the river a trip to the river Dart as a half term trip. The Dart loop is a very popular level 3 white water trip suitable for all competent kayakers. Book a day off and have some fun, organiser Dave/Darren

Wednesday 13th February- Indoor climbing Writhlington

A trip to the Writhlington indoor climbing wall at the Writhlington sports centre in Radstock. Suitable for all ages, all gear supplied by the WASC, depart Warminster about 18:30 or turn up any time after 19:00 at the Writhlington, organiser Darren

Saturday 16th February- Sharon's party

Sharon's x0th birthday party, location somewhere near Frome, all WASC members more than welcome so let's make this the best party this year, organiser Sharon.

Saturday 23rd February- Ballistics

Another chance to be politically incorrect with all manner of ballistic devices, bring your ballistic devices from air rifles to catapults. It is in the disused ground adjacent to the Warminster recycling centre just go past the centre and keep going. Setup 10:30 organiser Steve.

James Wild Edge will be organising a session with his archery equipment in a tbd location. If you have never used a bow and arrow in anger before this is the session for you. Organiser James

Friday 1st March- Sunday 3rd March Winter camp out

Darren is organising another winter camp out session. Expect to learn all kinds of skills from fire setting through to full on food preperation. Organiser Darren.

Sunday 3rd March Box Mine visit

For those who do not want to winter camp, Miner Murtie is organising one of his famous local mine tours. Suitable for all and does not involve anything difficult and is mainly a walk through the local Bath stone mines. See how they extracted the material to build Bath. Organiser Steve.

Friday 15th March- Swildon's caving

A return trip to Swildon's cave the amazing wet cave in the Mendips. Spectaculalry beautiful and you need a wet suit (obtainable from the WASC stores, gloves, wellies and 4 AA batteries. This is a spectacularly beautiful cave and well worth a visit. Suitable for all from about 8 years and up. Organiser Dave.

Saturday 23rd March- Guard Dog Handling and Shooting

An amazing chance to see and experience Sharon's Guard Dog training techniques and meet the animals themselves. At the same time we have a barn to do some indoor shooting with air rifles etc. So come and watch and bring weapons, what more do you want! Organiser Sharon.

Friday 5th April- Sally's rift

Sally's rift is a very different cave from our normal Mendip caves in that is was not formed by water. It also has two geocaches within it. Arrive near Monkton Farleigh about 19:00. Organiser Steve.

A trip to the White Water centre in Cardiff for a play session on the white water. As its Sunday the first two hours is at low volume ideal for beginners to white water. If you paddle at 1* standard then come and have a go. Leave Warminster 07:30. Organiser Dave

Friday 3rd May - Spring BBQ

Kick off the long evening with a BBQ at Sharon's place. Bring food, drink and barbies. Organiser Sharon

Tuesday 7th May - Swildons

A return visit to Swildons cave, the most spectacular cave in the area. With stream running through it, there are waterfalls, streamways and an optional sump. Suitable for 8 years+. The WASC has all the gear so grap a caving suit and wet suit and come along. Organiser Dave.

Saturday 11th May - Mountain Biking

A ride through Longleat forest with the options to have a go at some simpler technical sections from jumps to steep descents. A great ride through a beautiful forests, suitable for all. Organiser Simon.

Wednesday 15th May - Run in the woods

A run that is suitable for all through the woods. More details to follow. Organiser Sharon.

Saturday 18th May Archery session

Bring out the bold hunter in you and come along and have a go at archery. Organiser Darren.

Friday 24th May - Mine Trip

Another of miner Murtie's famous trips to a local mine to see how they extracted the stone by hand and get a feel of what life was like for the local miners. Organiser Steve.

Friday 7th June - Kick off of the 1 star kayaking course and BBQ sessions

The summer has arrived, our normal trip to Bradford on Avon for fun and training on the river. Come along and get your 1 star in kayaking and canoeing or just turn up for a paddle and fun. The course will last 7 weeks. As long as the waether is nice bring a barbie and stay on to eat and enjoy some good company. Organiser Darren, every Friday at 18:00 for the next seven weeks.

Wednesday 10th July - Outdoor climbing Vallis Vale

Outdoor climbing session at Vallis valie, it will be top roped and will include an abseil line. Suitable for all. If weather is inclement we will go to Writhlington instead. Organiser Bill

Tuesday 16th July - Tie yourself in knots

For those who want to learn the various tie on techniques for climbing and abseiling, come to Sharon's barn and practise tying yourself up in knots. Organiser Sharon

Wednesday 17th July - The infamous death slide

If the weather is dry we will visit Bector Wood quarry for a zip wire across the lake with the only way down a drop into the lake, great fun and very politically incorrect. See website for instructions on how to find and videos of the real thing. Organisers Bill/Dave

Friday 19th July - Kayak/Canoe session Bradford on Avon

Wednesday 24th July - Roadkill cook off

A BBQ at Bill's where you can bring your own roadkill or more savoury items. venue BIll's place 78 Portway. Organiser Bill.

Friday 26th July - Rod's pot caving session

A visit to Burrington Coombe to have a go at Rod's Pot a simple dry cave that's not too long. Organiser Dave.

August 2013

Fri-Sun 9-11 August - Canoe Adventure Weekend on the R. Wye

Camp out on Friday night, paddle 10 miles on Saturday and campout again, then paddle 20 miles to Symonds Yatt and get out and back to Warminster. Epic open canoe camping trip. Sign up with Bill.

Wednesday 14th August - Mountain Bike Ride out

An evening mountain bike session taking in Longleat forest. Depart Warminster 18:15. Organiser Dave.

Thursday 22nd August - Severn Bore

If you have never had a go at the Severn Bore this is your chance, a 4* bore is forecast which is OK for all, bring rubber rings, kayaks or surf boards! This is an evening bore, exact timing to be announced. Organiser Dave.

Saturday-Monday 24th-26th August - Swanage Trip

Our regular trip to Swanage area for sport climbing, mucking about in the water at Dancing ledge, a canoe/kayak to Brownsea island and possibly more and of course the Wareham music festival in the evening. Book your camp site/caravan site now. Organiser Bill.

Saturday/Sun 28th/29th - End of Summer surfing

With the sea warm a great way to end the summer surfing at Putsborough. Try big board surfing, surf kayaking or just have fun on the beach. Organiser Dave.

Friday 25th October Swildons Cave

Another chancce to explore Swildons cave a beautiful cave with a streamway running through it. It is about 3 hours long and fairly simple so suitable for all. Leave Bill's 78 Portway at 6.30pm.  Organiser Dave Tanner

Saturday 26th October Frome River Trip

A trip down the river Frome jumping a few weirs(or porting around). If you can paddle in a straight line this is suitable for you. Meet up at Beckington Bridge 09:30 Organiser Dave

Sunday 27th October Litter Pick along the River Dart, from a Kayak.

The annual kayakers litter river pick whilst travelling down the Dart. Organiser Bill.

Weekend 29/30th October  Survival Camp out at Brockerswood
